When the seat is off, we cut apart the skirt and welting from the seat. You can see the existing holes from when the seat was originally sewn together. One of the reasons reseats take awhile is that we resew the seats by hand reusing these little itty bitty holes. It makes the seat stronger. Each time you punch a hole in leather it gets weaker. By reusing these holes, the seat will be sewn on much stronger. And yes, we resew on the little strip of welting also. I love it because you have to be very precise in your stitching. It’s kind of meditative.
